A Shinjuku hotel with a kitchenette can be useful for a simple breakfast, familiar meals or evenings when you would rather eat in. Start by deciding what you want to prepare. Reheating a ready-made meal and cooking with a pan require different facilities.
This shortlist focuses on three specific room categories. A microwave, kettle or refrigerator alone does not establish that a room has cooking facilities. Check the selected room’s equipment even if the hotel appears in a “kitchen” search filter.

02 / THE SHORTLIST
Which room should you book?
For two people with separate beds
Tokyu Stay Shinjuku Eastside

Look for: Residential Twin. Its room listing identifies two 110 cm-wide beds, a kitchenette and a microwave.
Keep the word Residential in your comparison. The Comfort Twin lists a microwave but does not list a kitchenette. Choosing another twin category solely because it costs less could change your cooking setup.
Confirm the hob, cookware, preparation space and dining setup for this category. A kitchenette icon is not a complete inventory.
Select Residential Twin and confirm the cooking equipment attached to that category. The booking link opens the hotel page, not a preselected room.
For a compact kitchenette room
Tokyu Stay Nishi-Shinjuku

Look for: Residential Twin. The official equipment list includes a kitchenette and microwave. The property specifies an electric cooker for rooms with kitchenettes.
For two travelers sharing a bed, compare Corner Double: 23 m², a 160 cm bed, kitchenette and microwave. Choose between the sleeping arrangements, then inspect the room photos for usable space.
Ask about pans, plates and utensils before planning a meal that depends on them. The room page does not provide a complete cookware list.
Compare Residential Twin and Corner Double using the same dates and guest count. The booking link opens the hotel page, not a preselected room.
For a family or group eating together
MIMARU Tokyo Shinjuku West

Look for: Family Apartment. It has two single beds and a bunk bed. The property lists a kitchen and dining area in each room, with an IH stove, microwave, refrigerator, tableware, cutlery, pots and a frying pan among the equipment.
For four individual single beds, compare Apartment (4 Single-Beds). See our family-of-four room guide for sleeping arrangements.
The Family Apartment has no in-room washer-dryer; coin laundry is shared. Its exact room layout cannot be selected.
Match Family Apartment or Apartment (4 Single-Beds), including the correct adult and child counts. The booking link opens the hotel page, not a preselected room.
03 / PLAN WHAT YOU WILL COOK
Kitchenette, kitchen or microwave: what do you need?
“Kitchen” and “kitchenette” do not tell you every appliance provided. Use your likely meals to decide which details matter instead of relying on the label alone.
- For reheating mealsConfirm an in-room microwave and suitable dishes. A shared microwave elsewhere in the hotel creates a different routine.
- For cooking with a panConfirm a working hob, suitable pans, utensils and a place to prepare ingredients. Ask how washing up is handled.
- For storing ingredientsCheck refrigerator size and whether there is a usable freezer compartment if you need one. A refrigerator listing does not establish freezer space.
- For eating togetherCheck the table and number of seats in the exact layout. A room’s guest capacity does not establish a dining seat for everyone.
- For a specific recipeAsk about the appliance it requires. None of the equipment lists summarized here establishes a full-size oven, rice cooker or dishwasher.
Do not assume cooking oil, salt or other seasonings are supplied. Check the inventory first so you can buy only what you need. Follow the property’s cooking, ventilation, cleaning and rubbish instructions.
A question to send before booking
We are considering [exact room] for [dates] and [guest count]. Could you confirm the hob, refrigerator, microwave, pans, utensils and dining seats provided? Is there a sink and washing-up equipment? We hope to prepare [type of meal]. Please let us know any cooking restrictions.
04 / COMPARE THE WHOLE STAY
Is a hotel kitchenette worth paying extra for?
For a longer stay, laundry can affect your routine too. Our Tokyo hotel laundry guide explains how to compare a private washer-dryer with shared coin laundry.
Compare the total room-price difference over your stay with how often you expect to cook. Include groceries, supplies and unused food in that decision. Preparing a meal is not automatically cheaper once you account for a higher room rate.
A kitchenette may still be worthwhile if familiar food, a flexible breakfast or eating together matters to your group. If you only want to reheat one meal, a room with a microwave may meet your needs.
Look at the route between the hotel and the places you expect to visit as well. Our Shinjuku hotel guide brings together room, luggage and arrival considerations. If private laundry is also essential, check the in-room washer-dryer comparison separately.
05 / COMMON QUESTIONS
Shinjuku hotel kitchen FAQ
Does a microwave mean the room has a kitchenette?
No. A microwave establishes reheating equipment, not a hob, sink or cookware. Check the exact room’s kitchen facilities separately.
Does every room at Tokyu Stay have a kitchen?
Do not assume that from the brand name. The Eastside room listing, for example, distinguishes categories with a kitchenette from categories that list only a microwave. Match the full property and room name.
Which option should four adults compare?
Start with the MIMARU apartment categories above, then check the bed arrangement, dining seats and final rate for all four adults. The two Residential Twin categories in the table are listed for two people.
Are pots, pans and dishes included?
MIMARU’s property equipment list includes cookware and tableware. For the Tokyu Stay categories, request the room’s current inventory rather than assuming the same items are supplied.
Can I rely on an oven or rice cooker?
Not from the specifications summarized here. Ask about any appliance your meal plan depends on before booking or buying ingredients.
Can I choose a room with both a kitchenette and private laundry?
The Tokyu Stay Residential Twin categories discussed here list both. MIMARU’s Family Apartment instead uses shared coin laundry. Verify both features in your selected offer.
Choose the room around the meals you want to make.
Compare the two Residential Twin options for a stay for two. For four adults, compare apartment layouts and dining facilities before checking the rate.
