A coastal onsen stay for two
You want to sink into your own hot-spring bath as the sea changes colour. An “ocean-view room” sounds right—but does the view extend to the bath?
For that experience, start with the Toi and Dogashima area of western Izu. Fugaku Gunjo and Futaritowani En explicitly connect their private-bath stays with sunset scenery. Mayu Futahari offers sea-facing terrace onsen and describes sunset views from the terrace and separate private room.
The three room options below give you a practical shortlist. They do not establish that the setting sun’s disc will be visible from every seat in every bath: the room, date, weather and sightline still matter.
This is a researched booking guide, not a first-hand review. Details checked on October 6, 2026. If you book through an Agoda link, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
First, decide which sunset you mean
A glowing sky, an unobstructed sea horizon and the sun actually disappearing into the water are different experiences. A photograph of Mt. Fuji also does not establish where the sun sets relative to your bath.
If watching the sun itself from the water is essential, ask this before booking:
“For our dates, can we see the setting sun itself while seated in this room’s outdoor bath, or only the sunset colours from the terrace?”
Add the room name and your stay dates. This is more useful than asking whether the hotel has a nice sunset.
01 · For a generous suite and a wooden bath
Fugaku Gunjo: Yama no Ne
100 m² room · 130 m² total private area · Round hinoki outdoor onsen
The official Yama no Ne page identifies a circular hinoki bath and a room overlooking Suruga Bay and Mt. Fuji. The property’s concept page explicitly describes enjoying the changing evening scenery from the terrace and bath.
It is a useful option when you want the room itself to be part of the occasion: a living area, bedroom, Japanese-style space and deck, rather than a bath attached to a compact bedroom.
The booking detail to catch: Agoda’s named “Yama No Ne Guestroom with Open-Air Bath” is listed as 100 m², but its view label says “Nature view.” That label differs from the official description. Match the room name and photographs instead of relying on the view filter alone.
The 130 m² figure on the official page includes the wider private area, such as the deck and outdoor facilities. It is not a second, larger bedroom category.

02 · For a detached retreat
Futaritowani En: Type C
90 m² · Taisetsu na Hito or Shiawase na Toki · Hinoki tub over 180 cm across
Futaritowani En describes its ten detached accommodations as private-onsen stays for two, with views across Suruga Bay toward Mt. Fuji. Its official presentation also connects the outdoor-bath experience with the bay’s sunset.
For Type C, the room page names two rooms: Taisetsu na Hito and Shiawase na Toki. It specifies a two-room suite of 90 m² and a hinoki outdoor bath more than 180 cm in diameter.
Find on Agoda: “Japanese/Western-style Room with Open-air Bath (Type C: Taisetsu na Hito or Shiawase na Toki).” This identifies a category containing either named room; it does not let you assume which one you will receive.
Agoda’s “Mountain view” label is another reason to compare the official terrace photographs. If the exact bath angle matters, ask which of the two rooms is available and whether the hotel can confirm it before payment.

03 · For a terrace overlooking Dogashima
Mayu Futahari: Rangyoku
Named terrace-onsen room · Separate private dining / relaxation room
Mayu Futahari’s official room page describes a private hot-spring bath on each guest-room terrace, looking over western Izu’s sea and islands. It also describes sunset scenery from the terrace and separate private room. Rangyoku is one of its six named options.
Find on Agoda: “Room with Open-air Hot Spring Bath (Rangyoku Type).” The listing gives this named category as 75 m² and ocean view.
Read the area figure carefully. The hotel says the guest room and the separate private dining / relaxation room together total 150 m². Those spaces are in two buildings. Do not interpret a 150 m² listing as one continuous sleeping suite, or assume it is an upgrade over a named 75 m² option.
Before reserving, confirm that the selected rate includes the separate private room, and ask about the route between the buildings if steps or weather would affect your stay.

Which room would I shortlist?
Yama no Ne: when a large suite and a circular wooden bath are the main attraction.
Type C at En: when you prefer a detached stay and are comfortable booking one of two named rooms within a category.
Rangyoku: when Dogashima’s islands and the separate dining / relaxation space appeal to you.
These are choices by setting and layout, rather than a price ranking. Compare the total rate for two people, included meals and cancellation terms on the dates you will actually travel.
Can you get there without renting a car?
Plan the last leg before choosing your room. These stays are on western Izu, and a train ticket to Izu does not take you straight to their entrances.
Fugaku Gunjo’s official access diagram shows a route via Mishima, the Izu Hakone Railway to Shuzenji, and a bus connection. Mayu Futahari also shows Mishima and Shuzenji with a bus leg, plus a direct bus option from Mishima in its diagram. These diagrams are route outlines, not current timetables or guarantees that every service stops at your hotel.
- Ask the ryokan for the exact bus stop, final transfer and walking route with luggage.
- Confirm whether pickup is available, where it starts and whether it needs advance booking. An Agoda “shuttle service” icon does not establish station pickup.
- Work backwards from your desired arrival time and dinner arrangements. Leave enough margin to settle into the room before the evening view.
For Futaritowani En, request the current public-transport route directly from the hotel before buying tickets. Its official access information is linked below; a station-to-hotel shuttle has not been established in this guide.
Official access: Fugaku Gunjo · Mayu Futahari · Futaritowani En.
Questions worth asking before payment
Does “open-air bath” mean real hot-spring water?
The official descriptions identify hot-spring baths for these options. Mayu Futahari specifically describes its terrace baths as source-fed Dogashima onsen. If another room catches your eye, confirm its water source separately; an outdoor tub’s shape alone does not tell you.
Can I guarantee a sunset photograph from my bath?
No. Ask about the exact sightline for your dates, but clouds and visibility can still change the experience. Choose a room whose bath and layout you would enjoy without a perfect sunset.
Should I choose “ocean view” or the exact room name?
Use both the official room page and the named booking category. Yama no Ne and Type C show why a generic view filter can be incomplete. If names or photos differ, ask the property before making a non-refundable booking.
What if I am travelling with a child?
Do not infer child acceptance from a generic booking description. Futaritowani En’s official room page says children of elementary-school age and younger are not accepted. Check the current age policy directly for each ryokan and room.
Make the view part of the reservation
First identify the named room. Then confirm the view from the bath, the meal plan and the final transfer. A short message to the hotel is worth more than paying for an “ocean view” label that does not answer the experience you want.
