Ubuya bath-water verification
Ubuya sells several rooms with a private open-air bath and every guest room faces Mount Fuji across Lake Kawaguchiko. That sounds like a perfect “private onsen with a Fuji view.” One word changes the booking decision: according to Ubuya’s official FAQ, the water in guest-room baths is not sourced from the hot spring.
YES
PRIVATE ONSEN
NO
Short answer: Ubuya has genuine hot-spring baths in its shared Fuji no Yu bathhouse. Its private open-air guest-room baths offer privacy and scenery, but the official FAQ says they do not use hot-spring water. Book the room for the private Fuji-view bathing experience, not for mineral spring water.

Why “Open-Air Bath” Does Not Automatically Mean “Onsen”
English booking pages often place “private bath,” “open-air bath,” “hot tub” and “private onsen” close together. They describe different things.
The Two Bath Products at Ubuya

- Private to your room
- Fuji view
- Available in the designated room categories
- Water
- Not sourced from the hot spring
- Best for
- Couples, families and guests who value private bathing
- Privacy
- Shared, gender-separated bathing
- Fuji view
- Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko views
- Water
- Fujikawaguchiko hot-spring water
- Best for
- Guests who want the actual onsen water
Ubuya’s official onsen page describes calcium, sodium, chloride and sulfate hot-spring water and lists large indoor baths, open-air baths, reclining baths, seated baths and saunas. Those facilities belong to the shared bathhouse experience. The presence of a private tub in your room does not route the same water to that tub.
Which Ubuya Rooms Have a Private Open-Air Bath?
The official room page divides the inventory into “Room with private open air bath” and standard Japanese-style rooms. All rooms face Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko, but only the first group includes the private outdoor bath.
The price gap between Standard and Special Suite 501 therefore pays for more than water. It can buy room size, a particular layout, floor position and a private place to bathe while looking toward Fuji. Whether that is good value depends on the experience you want.

Choose by Priority, Not by the Word “Onsen”
An Ubuya open-air-bath room can be an excellent match. You can bathe without sharing the space and keep the view as the main event.
Use Fuji no Yu. If you require both privacy and hot-spring water in the same bath, Ubuya does not meet that condition under its published FAQ.
Consider a Japanese-style room without a private open-air bath, then use the shared onsen. Every guest room still faces Fuji.
This distinction also changes how Ubuya should appear in a Kawaguchiko comparison. It belongs in a list of hotels with private open-air baths and Fuji views. It should not be presented as a strict match for private in-room onsen water. Our Kawaguchiko private-onsen and Mt. Fuji guide explains which exact rooms meet the stricter definition.
The Tattoo and Privacy Problem
Ubuya’s official FAQ says guests with tattoos are generally barred from the spacious shared bath. It makes an exception when the tattoos can be covered by no more than two sheets measuring 10 cm by 10 cm each, available at the front desk.
You may be able to use Fuji no Yu and receive the true hot-spring experience. Confirm the rule before arrival because enforcement can change.
The private room bath solves the privacy problem but not the water-source requirement. Under the published rule, Ubuya may not deliver a private genuine-onsen option.
This is the most important mismatch for tattooed travelers. A room photo may look ideal, but the private tub is not the property’s hot-spring bath. If genuine private onsen water is essential, compare other properties before accepting a nonrefundable rate. Couples can start with our Kawaguchiko private-onsen guide for couples.
Meals Are Not Served in the Guest Room
The current official FAQ says dinner and breakfast are served in the Fuji and Iwai dining halls. Do not assume that a large Japanese room or a picture of a low table means the rate includes in-room dining.

Travelers who want both a private bath and dinner delivered to their room should use our private-onsen and in-room-dinner guide. Families should also note that Ubuya’s meal and bedding charges depend on the child’s age and selected plan, rather than assuming the room rate covers every guest identically.
A 60-Second Booking Check
Hello, we are considering Ubuya for [date]. The booking page shows “[paste the complete room name].”
Could you confirm that this exact room has a private open-air bath and that the guest-room bath does not use hot-spring water?

If you are arriving by train, Ubuya’s FAQ currently lists station-area pickup from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. after calling on arrival; advance reservations for a specific pickup time are not accepted. See our Kawaguchiko no-car guide for the wider arrival plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Ubuya have private onsen in its guest rooms?
Ubuya has rooms with private open-air baths, but its official FAQ says guest-room bath water is not sourced from the hot spring. Only the Fuji no Yu baths use hot-spring water.
Are Ubuya’s private open-air baths still worth booking?
They can be if privacy and a Mount Fuji view matter more than mineral water. The room bath lets couples or families bathe privately without the communal-bath routine.
Which Ubuya rooms have private open-air baths?
The official page lists Special Suite 501, Suite 401, Suite, Deluxe 301, Deluxe, Superior and Standard. The Japanese-style room with anteroom and Japanese-style room with two western beds do not list a private open-air bath.
Do all Ubuya rooms have a Mount Fuji view?
Yes. Ubuya’s official FAQ and room page state that all guest rooms face Mount Fuji, with Lake Kawaguchiko in the foreground. Visibility still depends on weather.
Can guests with tattoos use Ubuya’s hot spring?
The official FAQ generally prohibits tattoos in the spacious bath, but allows entry when tattoos can be covered by up to two 10 cm by 10 cm sheets. Ask the property to confirm the current rule for your stay.
Does Ubuya serve dinner in the room?
The current official FAQ says dinner and breakfast are served in the Fuji and Iwai dining halls. Check the final rate plan because meal formats can change.
Final Verdict
Ubuya offers a private Fuji-view bath, but not private hot-spring water in the guest room. That does not make the room inferior. It makes the product more precise: you are paying for privacy, scenery, room category and space. The genuine onsen water is in Fuji no Yu.
Book Ubuya when that two-part experience works for you. Choose another exact-room match when private mineral water is the nonnegotiable reason for the trip.
