YUDANAKA · ROOM BOOKING GUIDE
Choose the room.
Then compare the rate.
At Aburaya Tosen, a twin room, an open-air onsen room and a private-sauna suite are different purchases. Here is how to choose the upgrade you will actually use.

Comparing Aburaya Tosen rooms? Start with the renovated Senyukan Japanese/Western room if you want Western beds and your own natural hot-spring bath. Consider a special room only when a private sauna and a longer stay in the room justify the extra cost. The property is also spelled Aburaya Tousen and あぶらや燈千.
- Couple, beds + private onsen: Senyukan open-air-bath Japanese/Western room.
- Anniversary, sauna is essential: special C1 or D2 for two; confirm the exact suite and dinner arrangement.
- Three to five guests: compare Senyukan and Tokitei B, then confirm each guest’s bedding.
- Western beds, shared bathing is fine: Wellness Sleep 45 m² or 60 m²; these do not have a room open-air bath.
Aburaya Tosen room types at a glance

Which private onsen room should you book?
OUR STARTING PICK · BEDS + PRIVATE BATH
Senyukan: the renovated Japanese/Western room
The current official listing specifies an August 2025 renovation, a separate twin sleeping area, a tatami room and an open-air cypress onsen. This is the clearest fit for a couple who wants both beds and private bathing. You are paying for a convenient combination rather than the largest suite.
For a family, separate living and sleeping areas are useful, but ask where extra bedding is placed and which doors separate the spaces. Do not assume all five guests receive a bed.

Open the individual room details and look for the Senyu Wing, twin beds and an open-air bath. The link opens the property, not a guaranteed room allocation.
JAPANESE-STYLE CHOICE
Tokitei A: the simpler onsen-room choice
Start with A when the private bath is your priority and you do not need B’s extra tatami space. Its official layout includes an adjoining area and a terrace bath. A is worth comparing with Senyukan only if you are comfortable with the Japanese-style sleeping arrangement.
Before booking: obtain the futon count and setup details. The official page does not list Western beds.

Tokitei B: extra tatami and a corner layout
B adds a 4.5-tatami area and sunken kotatsu to the main room. The official listing describes a corner room and a stone open-air onsen. Choose it for space to spend time together, especially if an evening in the room matters more than Western beds.
Before booking: a five-person limit does not establish five separate sleeping spaces. Confirm the futon arrangement and any child charges.

Special C1, C2, D1 and D2: pay for the sauna
The special rooms add a private sauna and dedicated dining space to a twin-bed room with an open-air onsen. For an anniversary, that upgrade makes sense if you plan to arrive early and use the room rather than spend the entire day sightseeing.
TWO-PERSON SUITES
C1 or D2
Choose the two-person categories for a couple’s retreat. Neither is a verified “best view” or “largest bath” winner: the official listings use an 88–93 m² range, not a precise individual size.
UP TO FOUR GUESTS
C2 or D1
These are the special-room categories to investigate for three or four guests. Confirm the extra sleeping setup and the ages accepted by your chosen rate before making a non-refundable booking.
The official special-room marketing describes dining inside the suite, but the current booking descriptions also say dinner is served in a private dining room. Treat the venue as unresolved until the hotel confirms your exact plan in writing. A dining table in the room is not a promise of in-room dinner.
For a sauna suite, obtain the C/D code and confirmation of a private sauna. A generic “luxury” label is insufficient; compare the official plan if Agoda cannot identify the suite.
When Wellness Sleep or a standard room is the better purchase
If you are happy using communal onsen, the renovated Wellness Sleep rooms let you prioritise beds without paying for a room open-air bath. The 45 m² category is for two; the 60 m² category accommodates up to four. Both are listed without an open-air bath. Do not confuse their Hollywood-twin description with the Senyukan onsen room.
The standard Senyukan 10-tatami room is another option if you prefer Japanese-style accommodation and do not need a private room onsen. “Senyukan” alone does not guarantee a bath.
How to match Agoda room names to the official types
Room labels may be translated differently by suppliers. Match the wing, bath, bed configuration and capacity together. Do not choose from the property’s main photo alone.
| Agoda label observed | Likely official correspondence | What still needs checking |
|---|---|---|
| Japanese/Western-style Room with Open-air Bath (Twin Beds, Senyu Wing) *Refurbished room | Strong candidate for the renovated Senyukan onsen room | Current renovation, two double beds, occupancy and meal plan |
| Japanese-style Room with Open-air Bath (Tomoshibitei Type) | Tokitei Japanese-style onsen-room family | A vs B is not established by this generic label |
| Comfort Room (Akari Type) | No definitive correspondence established | Current room category and bath; do not infer a sauna suite from “Akari” |
| Special room / suite with other wording | No complete C1/C2/D1/D2 mapping verified | Exact code, sauna, party size and dinner venue |
The named labels above were observed in Agoda’s property photo gallery, not as a promise of live inventory. Some room names or photos may predate refurbishment. Availability changes by date, guest count and supplier.
- Exact room name and wing, preferably the official Japanese category or C/D code.
- Natural hot-spring open-air bath inside your room allocation.
- Bed sizes and the sleeping setup for every guest.
- Dinner and breakfast included, dinner venue and arrival deadline.
- Cancellation deadline, total taxes/fees and child charges.
- Written confirmation of any essential request; a request field alone is not a guarantee.
Meals, private baths and Snow Monkey Park access
Dinner is a plan choice
The hotel offers seasonal Japanese dining and private dining spaces. Check whether your rate includes two meals, breakfast only or no meals. A private-onsen room does not automatically include dinner.
Private breakfast options for onsen-room guests may involve a supplement; ask for the current conditions. Do not assume official-site booking benefits also apply to Agoda.
Official cuisine informationA reserved bath is a different upgrade
The shared onsen areas are separate from the baths attached to guestrooms. The hotel also lists a separately reservable private open-air bath, Suigetsu no Yu (translated as Yuzuki no Yu on parts of the English site), at ¥2,200 including tax.
Confirm the slot duration and current fee: this is not an unrestricted room bath. If repeated private bathing matters, choose a room with its own onsen.

Arriving by train and visiting the monkeys
Aburaya Tosen is a Yudanaka town base. The hotel quotes an eight-minute walk from Yudanaka Station or a two-minute station shuttle. The complimentary station transfer requires advance reservation and has limited seats. Arrange your arrival with the hotel rather than assume an on-demand pickup.
The park’s official route from Yudanaka is about 15 minutes by bus to the Snow Monkey Park stop, followed by around 35 minutes on foot. This is not a 35-minute walk from the hotel. Allow extra time for winter trail conditions and current timetables.
A complimentary hotel-to-park shuttle was not confirmed in the official access information reviewed. Check directly if it is important to your itinerary. See the hotel’s access and station-transfer conditions and the park’s official access guide.

Aburaya Tosen rooms: frequently asked questions
Does every Aburaya Tosen room have a private onsen?
No. Select an explicitly named open-air-bath room or a special sauna room. Wellness Sleep and standard rooms are listed without a room open-air bath. A hotel-wide “hot spring” amenity does not establish a private room onsen.
Which room should a couple choose for Western beds and a private bath?
Start with the renovated Senyukan Japanese/Western onsen room. If a private sauna is essential, investigate C1 or D2 and obtain the exact category confirmation before booking.
Can a family of four book a special room?
The official C2 and D1 categories allow up to four guests. Confirm children’s eligibility, charges and additional bedding on your specific plan. C1 and D2 are listed for two.
Is a special room guaranteed to include in-room dinner?
No. The official descriptions contain conflicting venue information. Ask the hotel to confirm the dinner location and service included in your chosen rate in writing.
Is Aburaya Tosen next to the Snow Monkey Park entrance?
No. It is a Yudanaka base, with onward transport and a forest walk to reach the park. Station pickup and park access are separate arrangements.
Choose the room first, then compare meal inclusions and cancellation terms. If a room cannot be matched confidently, use the official specifications before committing.
